Cancer Therapist Profile: Glen Russell
GLEN RUSSELL, CERT.HYP.HYPCA.CNSL
Glen Russell is a certified counsellor and hypnotherapist and graduated from the Alpha Hypnosis Training School having studied a Diploma in Advanced Hypnotherapy & Neural Linguistic Programming.
It was during this time that Glen decided to specialize in working with cancer patients. Glen embarked on an ambitious training regime further to his training at Alpha Hypnosis Training School to ready himself for the challenge of working with cancer patients in the specialized field of ‘hypnosis for cancer’. After reading Stephen J Parkhill’s internationally acclaimed book "Answer Cancer: The Healing of a Nation", Glen undertook training with Stephen to learn the art of healing illnesses created by the mind using hypnotherapy as a tool to access deep core emotions.
Having completed his training with Stephen, Glen undertook further training with the prestigious Omni Hypnosis Training Center in DeLand, Florida and after completing his final examination, received certification as a ‘Hypnosis for Cancer Specialist’. Not satisfied with this, Glen spent a further 2 years researching how the mind, emotions, hormones and stress are connected with cancer and other illnesses in the field of ‘psycho-neuro-immuno-endocrinology’ and created the document "Complementary Cancer Therapies to Improve the Immune System".
Glen’s driving force to work with cancer patients began in 1993 when his own mother was diagnosed with breast cancer (2 years after her own mother’s death). Overwhelmed, confused and frustrated by the many alternative therapies for cancer treatment available, Glen and his mother tried a variety of treatments from intravenous Vitamin C (when she was very ill) to Chinese herbal medicine (that was too bitter to swallow), to uncovering the benefits of hyperthermia heat therapy in Germany (when she was too ill to fly). In the end time ran out for Glen’s mother and she passed away in 1997.
After his mother’s passing, Glen trained and worked as a volunteer counsellor with Lifeline Counselling in Sydney and Auckland helping those in the community to face life’s challenges and has since specialized in working with acute emotional disorders in his private practice in South Auckland.
Glen has achieved remarkable success with his 5 session Emotional Release Therapy program he developed on his own, which includes hypnotherapy, regression therapy, gestalt (role-play) therapy, forgiveness therapy, EFT (emotional freedom technique) and face to face counselling. As a result of the success of this program, the Papakura Marae refers its clients with acute emotional disorders to Glen to participate on this 5 session program. Funding is provided by Child Youth Family Services who have seen first hand the incredible impact this program has in its ability to remove destructive anger, hate, fear, grief and anxiety in such a short period of time. This 5 session program is ideally suited to the cancer patient who carries with him/her much repressed anger, hate, resentment and grief.
Cancer Therapist Profile: Arthur King
ARTHUR KING, CERT.RMT.HOLP.LTI
Arthur King is a certified remedial massage therapist and graduated from the internationally renowned Brandon Raynor’s School of Natural Therapies, a course accredited by the International Natural Therapies Association.
Arthur has spent many years working with the terminally ill in his own private practice using massage as a healing tool and in helping to enhance quality of life. His clients often refer to Arthur as having ‘healing hands’ or ‘magic hands’.
Not satisfied with his training in remedial massage therapy, Arthur undertook further training with the NZ College of Massage in Auckland, specializing in Holistic Pulsing (Gentle Rhythmic Massage) and Massage for Life Threatening Illness. During an holistic pulsing session, the receiver is gently rocked with a rhythm close to the fetal heartbeat experienced in the womb. The sense of peace, support and love experienced during a session is often a catalyst for powerful self-discovery and healing.
Arthur is passionate about helping the sick and unwell and worked as a volunteer massage therapist at Herne Bay House in Auckland helping those with HIV / AIDS to live a better quality of life.
Arthur is also driven to helping those with cancer to live a better quality of life and has been personally touched by cancer in his life. In 1995 Arthur’s mother was diagnosed with lung cancer (2 years after she was faced with the severe trauma of placing her own ailing mother into a retirement home). Not able to cope with the fear for her mother’s safety and well-being, she eventually lost her battle with lung cancer in 1996.
Arthur has since read and studied the works of Gayle MacDonald, a leading international specialist in the field of ‘Massage Therapy for People with Cancer’ and is acutely aware of the challenges and restrictions facing a cancer patient where massage is used as a tool for therapy.
Arthur is a healer, a motivator, a counsellor and friend. The energy he imparts to his clients transcends himself and many who feel his healing touch remark upon how well they feel in such a short period of time.
